My Mid-Century Inspired Living Room Makeover

Hey there, it’s Melissa from The Sweet Escape here to share my fab new living room makeover with you and Leon’s played a big part! I’ve been living in my loft downtown Toronto for 7 years now. What they say about a 7 year itch is real. For me it’s my decor, I’m ready to change almost everything. You’ve already seen my dramatic kitchen makeover and that really just snowballed into wanting to change the living area since it’s open concept.

Here’s my living room before – there was nothing wrong with it but like I said I was ready for a change and my tastes have also changed slightly and although I’m still a big colour lover I wanted to scale back on the colour a bit and change the palette.

Here’s the plan I put together. I was going for a Boho Chic look (surprise!). Leon’s Leandro Sofa was the perfect modern piece with the right amount of mid-century influence to fit in with my vintage style running throughout my loft. So how did it turn out? Scroll downnnnn

I stuck with my plan and here’s my new living room!

As you can see I kept my vintage mid-century credenza & coffee table but added a more neutral rug and these major craiglist score chairs to give the space a bit more of the ‘chic’ part of boho chic. The lamps were another great score from the thrift shop and I just replaced the shades with modern drum shape. I had changed my curtains earlier and because it was so hard to find pre-made ones in the length I needed I ended up making my own for under $50.

Perhaps the most impactful piece is this string art that was inspired by Emily Henderson’s living room. It’s not quite as delicate and airy as hers but I love it!

The colour of the Leandro Sofa matches perfectly with the new rug and the chairs and looks great among all my vintage art and collectables. I also really like the charcoal colour in contrast to the wood pieces in the room.

Overall I’m super happy with my sofa and bonus! it’s actually comfortable. It’s grade A genuine leather so keeping it clean is easy for someone who likes to have dinner on the sofa and lots of friends who like to drink red wine. I’m not a plastic covering sofa type. This sofa will be lived on and hopefully it can keep up!
